Description

Siemon Cat 6 UTP Cable — 305m Reel

The Siemon Cat 6 UTP cable is a high-performance structured cabling solution designed for enterprise and commercial network infrastructure. It supports Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) and is backward compatible with Cat 5e installations. Furthermore, it is engineered to meet and exceed the ANSI/TIA-568.2-D and ISO/IEC 11801 Cat 6 performance standards, making it a reliable foundation for modern LAN deployments.

Siemon is a globally recognised cabling manufacturer. As a result, this cable carries consistent quality control across the full reel length — a factor that matters for large-scale structured cabling projects where performance uniformity between runs is critical.

Performance and Bandwidth

The Siemon Cat 6 cable operates at a rated bandwidth of 250 MHz. This headroom above the 100 MHz floor supports not only Gigabit Ethernet but also 10GBASE-T over shorter distances (up to approximately 55 metres in standard channel configurations). Consequently, installations using this cable can accommodate near-term network upgrades without recabling.

Key electrical performance characteristics include reduced near-end crosstalk (NEXT), improved power sum NEXT (PS-NEXT), and tightly controlled attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio (ACR). These parameters collectively ensure signal integrity across the full 100-metre horizontal channel length.

Cable Construction

The Siemon Cat 6 cable uses four twisted pairs of 23 AWG bare copper conductors. The tighter twist rates per pair, combined with a spline separator between pairs, physically isolate each pair from the others. This, in turn, minimises internal crosstalk and alien crosstalk from adjacent cables in high-density bundle environments.

The cable jacket is available in PVC (CMR-rated, suitable for riser installations) or LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) variants. LSZH jacketing is specified for environments where flame-spread and toxic smoke emission are regulated — including data centres, transport infrastructure, and public buildings.

Installation Characteristics

The Siemon Cat 6 cable is supplied on a 305-metre (1,000 ft) pull-box reel, the industry-standard format for structured cabling installations. The pull-box design facilitates controlled, tangle-free deployment across cable trays, conduit runs, and ceiling voids.

Additionally, the cable maintains a maximum pulling tension of 110N and a minimum bend radius of 25mm during installation. Adhering to these parameters ensures that the cable’s transmission performance is preserved after installation — a common failure point when installation best practices are not followed.

The cable is compatible with standard Cat 6 keystone jacks, patch panels, and RJ45 field-termination plugs. Siemon’s own Z-MAX and MAX keystone jacks are the recommended termination components for matched-system channel performance and warranty coverage.

Standards and Certifications

The Siemon Cat 6 cable is tested and verified against the following standards:

  • ANSI/TIA-568.2-D — North American structured cabling standard for Cat 6 balanced twisted-pair cabling
  • ISO/IEC 11801 — International performance specification for Class E horizontal cabling
  • IEC 60332 — Flame retardancy testing (applicable to LSZH variants)
  • RoHS Compliant — Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive compliance
  • ETL/UL Listed — Third-party verified to NEC Article 800 requirements (CMR/CMP as applicable)

Supported Applications

The Siemon Cat 6 cable supports the following network applications within a 100-metre channel:

  • 1000BASE-T — Gigabit Ethernet (IEEE 802.3ab)
  • 100BASE-TX — Fast Ethernet
  • 10GBASE-T — 10 Gigabit Ethernet (up to ~55m in standard channel per IEEE 802.3an)
  • PoE and PoE+ — Power over Ethernet up to 30W (IEEE 802.3at)
  • PoE++ — Up to 90W (IEEE 802.3bt) with appropriate channel design
  • VoIP and IP Surveillance — Low-latency structured cabling for converged network applications

Ideal Users

  • Network Infrastructure Contractors and Installers — The 305m pull-box reel format and 23 AWG construction are optimised for efficient horizontal cabling runs in commercial fit-outs. Compliance with TIA-568.2-D ensures the cable qualifies for Siemon’s end-to-end channel warranty when paired with Siemon termination hardware.
  • Enterprise IT and Facilities Managers — Cat 6’s 250 MHz bandwidth provides a meaningful upgrade path over Cat 5e in environments planning future migration to 10G switching infrastructure. The structured cabling framework supports both current Gigabit and near-term 10GBASE-T deployments without replacing horizontal cabling.
  • Data Centre Operators — Where top-of-rack or end-of-row switching connects to patch panels over short horizontal runs, Cat 6 delivers reliable 10GBASE-T performance. LSZH variants meet fire safety requirements common in data centre and co-location facility specifications.
  • Education and Healthcare Facilities — PoE++ support (IEEE 802.3bt) accommodates high-power connected devices including IP cameras, wireless access points, digital signage, and nurse call systems — all over a single structured cabling plant.
  • Government and Public Sector Projects — RoHS compliance, ETL/UL listing, and LSZH availability satisfy procurement specifications common in public infrastructure and government building projects where material and safety certifications are mandatory.
